Pothi.com is looking to hire urgently for the following positions
- Operations Executive
- Publishing Manager
- Content Coordinator & Editor
Since we are a start-up, multi-tasking is highly valued and we’d give preference to the candidates who can handle more than one of the above roles.
All these are full time positions and will need you to come to our office at Kaggadaspura, Bangalore. Telecommuting/Work from home is not possible.
The responsibilities involved for each of these roles are given below
Operations Executive
- Answering Customer Queries (mostly over e-mails)
- Processing Book Submissions and managing the listing
- Processing and tracking orders
- Working with vendors to ensure that orders are completed in time
- Maintaining Bills and other paper work
- General Administrative Tasks
Publishing Manager
- Providing Customer Support/Interacting with clients regarding Pothi.com offerings
- Managing various publishing assignments in coordinators with customers, freelancers and vendors
- Working with the founders for planning and launching new publishing offerings
- Building and managing a team of freelancers/employees for various publishing activities
Content Coordinator & Editor
- Keeping the Website content updated and relevant to users.
- Writing, maintaining and updating Frequently Asked Questions, Articles, Newsletters and Company Blog.
- Working closely with Customer Support to proactively identify the need for suitable content and develop it.
- Developing content for special books/publications by Pothi.com.
- Taking up editing and proof-reading assignments for books.
- Managing editing and other assignments with vendors, freelancers and customers.
- Keeping the Website content updated and relevant to users.
Requirements
For all positions
- Must have excellent English communication skills, particularly written/e-mail communication skills – this is the most common form of communication used at Pothi.com
- Should be Internet savvy and very comfortable with using computer and various office programs
- Attention to details and sharpness of mind – you need to learn new things quickly and do it right
- Good People Interaction skills – in almost any position you will need to interact with vendors, customers and others
- Graduation in any discipline
Operations Executive
In addition to the requirements for all positions
- Knowledge of Kannada/other South Indian Languages/Hindi will be an added advantage
- Familiarity with DTP and design applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design, Page Maker) will be an added advantage
Publishing Manager
In addition to the requirements for all positions
- Very good project management skills; ability to be on top of things
- Previous publishing industry experience with be an added advantage
Content Coordinator and Editor
In addition to the requirements for all positions
- A graduation in English language/literature or related subjects – you need to be professional in your handling of content writing or editing OR
- An experience in editing, preferably with a publishing house

About Pothi.com
Pothi.com is a start-up providing print-on-demand backed publishing platform. This is used by various individuals and organizations to publish their books with no or little upfront investment. It is the leading player in the domain with over 300 titles having been published through its platform. Pothi.com’s aim is to make publishing accessible to all.
Pothi.com was founded in2008 by two IIT Kanpur graduates Abhaya Agarwal and Jaya Jha. Both of them did their B. Tech. in Computer Science.
Abhaya worked with a startup and then went for higher studies at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). After finishing his MS, he came back to India to work on Pothi.com full time.
Jaya did her MBA from IIM Lucknow, graduating as the batch topper. She skipped the placement process to work for a start-up and then for Google as one of their first Product Managers in India, before starting Pothi.com.

Web Application Developers
This is not a "Website Development" kind of position. Web application development needs writing good and efficient code, and not just html and css.

We need somebody to make things happen much faster at Pothi.com. If you are an open source enthusiast, love programming and are aware/proficient with latest web application development technologies, we would like to hear from you.
As a part of the job you would need to work independently on projects for its end to end execution and launch. The focus of your work will be on developing robust platform and not necessarily on front end engineering. Although, someone who could do both will be more than welcome :)
Exposure to Drupal/Wordpress development or to PHP/Python/Flex would be a plus.

Web Application Developer (Intern)
We are looking for final year students of Computer Science/Computer Engineering for a semester/year long internship. Internship involves working fairly independently on a programming project of significant size. The project would be expected to go live on Pothi.com before the end of the internship.
If you are an open source, programming and Internet enthusiast and love reading books that is, if you
- have participated in at least one programming contest
- have done at least one significant programming project
- know the difference between developing a website and developing a web application
- know who is Richard Stallman
- read at least one book outside of syllabus every quarter :)
