Short Run Printing at Pothi.com

The need

In the traditional offset printing, you need to print books in large quantities (typically 500+) to make the per copy cost reasonable. This results in high upfront invesement in printing. There are several situations when printing those many copies are not really needed. For example

  • For publishers
    • Reprinting of a book after initial print runs: There are several books for which initial print runs have been exhausted. There still is demand, but not high enough to justify another print run of 500+ copies. In such cases, being able to print 25-100 copies would be a much better option.
    • Printing of niche books: Many books are written for niche audiences and in such cases large print runs may not make sense.
  • For individuals and others
    • Self Publishing a Book: You might be on a tight budget for self publishing a book. It may be a good idea to first test the market by printing in small quantities.
    • Publishing for a society/voluntary organization: There might be situations where an organization (not primarily in publishing business) wants to publish books for relatively small audience. Budgetary as well as logistical constrains may not justify large run printing. Short run printing would be ideal in such cases
