He is the first writer who made realistic Hindi fiction so accessible to readers. Some of his famous works include <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.in\/Munshi-Premchands-Gaban-Timeless-Classic\/dp\/8122311962\/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&amp;keywords=Gaban&amp;qid=1627642546&amp;sr=8-4\">Gaban<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.in\/Seva-Sadan-Premchand\/dp\/9350643618\/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&amp;keywords=Seva+Sadan+premchand&amp;qid=1627642611&amp;sr=8-3\">Seva Sadan<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.in\/Godaan-Hindi-Munshi-Premchand\/dp\/9388810473\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=godaan&amp;qid=1627642478&amp;sr=8-1\">Godaan<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>Twelve Facts About One of the Greatest Authors India has Produced<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>His real name was Dhanpat Rai Srivastava.<\/li>\n<li>His first pen name was Nawab Rai; Premchand came later.<\/li>\n<li>He is called<em> Upanyas Samrat<\/em>&#8211; Emperor of Novels.<\/li>\n<li>One of the characters who makes a repeated appearance in his novels is that of the stepmother.<\/li>\n<li>His first novel has disappeared.<\/li>\n<li>He married too young. The marriage soured quickly and he married a child widow later on. This was revolutionary at the time.<\/li>\n<li>Premchand initially wrote in Urdu- he began writing in Hindi later on in his career.<\/li>\n<li>Premchand was an enthusiastic reader of classics in other languages, and translated several of these works in Hindi.<\/li>\n<li>In 1923, he established a printing press and publishing house in Benares called Saraswati Press but he was unable to run the press owing to financial issues.<\/li>\n<li>Premchand did a cameo as the leader of laborers in the film <em>Mazdoor<\/em> that he wrote the script for- the film never hit the screens as some influential businessmen were against it.<\/li>\n<li>He wrote largely about social injustices, choosing themes like dowry, widow remarriage, corruption and the freedom struggle.<\/li>\n<li>In 1977, Satyajit Ray made a film based on Premchand&#8217;s short story <em>Shatranj ke Khiladi<\/em>, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
