Dr. B. S. Gharpure (F.F.A.R.C.S.) is a senior anaesthesiologist who has practiced in the city of Mumbai. In this book he shares his experiences of over 50 years. He has always felt, that at the post-graduate level, well-equipped teaching hospitals were not able to coach students who would opt for private practice in small nursing homes with less medical equipment. Small nursing home practice is a specialty by itself. It is totally based on thetheory one has learnt and yet you have to navigate through various odds and demands by the patient and the surgeons and also the theatre staff and relatives. Starting his practice as an entrant in K.E.M. Hospital, Bombay in June 1956 he continues to work at the time of this publication. Dr. Gharpure’s anecdotal experience of practising anaesthesia in small private nursing homes applies not only to a city like Mumbai, but also in the mofussil area where medical equipment is bare bones.
