This edition of THE BURNING DESIRE will put light mostly on Chakmas culture and tradition and what is needed to preserve it. And, inside this we have some articles which will mainly highlight the present situation of the Chakmas in Arunachal and CHT and how to cope up with these problems.
Chakma is a community that almost has too much history and cultural treasure. The result is that we’ve used the excuse of poverty and discrimination to neglect of beautiful cultural treasure. But a grassroots conservation movement spearheaded by the concern people and organisations has been gaining strength all over the world. Organisations like MCDF, TCSA, MAADI, Mono-garh, ACN, APCSU, MCSU, JUMMO Council and OMADU PRODUCTION have been making their influence felt. Individuals too are helping to build a brick-by-brick movement. In Tripura organisation like MAADI and TCSA had played a crucial role in the introduction of Chakma Script in primary schools. In BOCK (Bangladesh Occupied Chakma Kingdom) too work on preservation of culture is on its peak.
