Description

Some of the important problems in anti-virus applications are, (i) problem of detecting stealth viruses, (ii) problem of slowness of virus scanning, (iii) problem of detection of new viruses, (iv) problems in extracting virus signatures from complex/ metamorphic viruses, (v) problems in fast distributing virus signatures to clients, (vi) problem of eliminating false positives and false negatives, (vii) problem of managing the anti-virus program code in a continuously changing environment, (viii) problem of scanning compressed, encrypted and password protected files, (ix) problem of scanning realtime network traffic, (x) protecting secrets of scanning technologies from virus writers and anti-virus competitors etc..
TRIZ can help solving some of the strong challenges faced by the anti-virus developers, such as overcoming limitations of current generation anti-virus programs, staying ahead of the virus creators and other anti-virus developers and finding all new possibilities of solving the malware problem. TRIZ believes that all systems, including computers, operating systems, software and anti-virus, are moving towards an ideal stage that is full of only useful functions and devoid of any weaknesses. The book illustrates application of various TRIZ techniques such as Contradictions, Resources, Trends, Ideality, S-Fields, Inventive Standards and Inventive Principles in the course of explaining various patented and non-patented anti-viral solutions.
Hence the solution is not to detect or vaccinate the known viruses but to implement vaccines for the future age viruses that are not yet born. The anti-virus programmers stay behind because they don’t know the future strategy of the virus creators and the possible characteristics of the future viruses. TRIZ can help the anti-virus developers to see the characteristics of the future viruses and forecast the futuristic problems that are not yet seen or known. As the virus developers have access to all the technologies and infrastructure (like compilers, code generators, Internet etc.) that the anti-virus developers have access to, it is only the matured techniques of TRIZ that can help the anti-virus developers to win over their opponents.
