For the wonderful Fathers We all remember our fathers, always encouraging any streak of talent and creativity they saw in us. While doing so, their own dreams and creative pursuits took a back seat. On this Father's day, we want to give a shout out to the children who made an effort to fulfill those dreams. And in the process also created something wonderful to be shared with their families and the world.
Zunder Lekshmanan and his family came to understand the deep emotions his father held for everything around him when transcribing his poems. The collections published under the name "Down the Memory Lane" continues to serve as an antidote to the void that his family feels after the demise of his father and is an interesting memoir for all the friends and well wishers the poet had gained in his lifetime.
Sachendra Garg ‘Rashmi’ wrote several poems during his young years in 1950s. Many of these were published in contemporary magazines and anthologies with the pen-name 'Rashmi'. With other callings of life taking precedence, the dream of publishing them as a collection never materialized. 50 years later, his son Shaleen decided to re-collect the poems he regarded as the “most valuable property the family has” and published the collection "Vihaan". The book launch in his home town Yamuna Nagar recently was attended by over 150 people.
Prof. B C Chattopadhyay was on the faculty of the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur from 1968 to 1995. "Growing Towns in India", a book exploring urbanization of the fast-growing low-skill, low-wage rural population in India, was the result of his years of research and planning experience. His son-in-law, Dr. Anurag Acharya, not only acted as a "solve-all" friend who googled things up to find critical parts of the study, but also took up the task of publishing the manuscript.
