This book deals with the preliminary phytochemical screening and evaluation of hypolipidemic activity of alcoholic extract of Coleus forskohlii. The preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of active compound that has pharmacological action and other compounds. The main constituent of Coleus forskohlii is forskolin. This forskolin was evaluated for antihyperlipidemic activity. The active constituent forskolin has shown the marked decrease in the lipid levels in the atherogenic rats when compared with the standard marketed drug Atorvastatin. Coleus forskohlii at a dose of 500 mg/kg for day showed a marked reduction in body weight which was comparable to Atorvastatin treatment. A reduction of body weight suggests the potential of Coleus forskohlii, against obesity.
